Silky Belgium forward Nacer Chadli chats to MATCH about the epic game, who he always beats and which stars have skills!
ARE YOU FIFA FANS AT WEST BROM?
NACER SAYS: “Yeah, we have some players who play FIFA. I probably play the most, and I’m very good – I could be a professional! But I choose real football. I play online and on Ultimate Team – I’m in division 2.”
WHO ARE THE OTHER GOOD FIFA PLAYERS AT THE CLUB?
NACER SAYS: “Salomon Rondon gives me tough games, and he’s beaten me a few times before. Allan Nyom is the worst! He might have beaten me once in about ten games, but you can’t win every match!”
WHEN DID YOU FIRST APPEAR ON FIFA?
NACER SAYS: “It would have been 2010, I think. It was exciting, and because I was young I was playing FIFA even more then than I do now, so it was really cool to see myself on there!”
WHO ARE THE BIG FIFA PLAYERS IN THE BELGIUM SQUAD?
NACER SAYS: “There are a few – I play with Romelu Lukaku quite a bit and Kevin Mirallas, Michy Batshuayi, Dedryck Boyata and Divock Origi all play as well. They’re all good players – I win a lot of matches, but Michy and Romelu are pretty good too.”
ACCORDING TO FIFA, MERTENS AND HAZARD ARE THE FASTEST BELGIUM PLAYERS - DO YOU AGREE?
NACER SAYS: “It depends on how long the race is! If it’s 50 metres then I’d put my money on someone like Divock Origi or Romelu Lukaku winning, but over 10 or 20 metres then yeah, Dries Mertens or Eden Hazard would probably have the edge because their acceleration is so good.”
A top-class poacher needs a turn of pace, good movement, and epic finishing ability. We’ve been checking out some of the best in the game on FIFA 18!
Icardi was already a top finisher before his ratings refresh, but then he became a world-class striker! With 91 stats for both att. positioning and finishing, plus 90 heading accuracy, he’s absolutely lethal inside the penalty area!
If you’re looking for a sick striker on Career Mode, you have to go for Martinez. The ace talent starts out with solid stats for pace and finishing, as well as four-star skills and weak foot, and has the potential to hit an OVR in the high 80s. Awesome!
Higuain is the highest-rated striker in Serie A, so you’ll need 50k coins to sign him on FUT, and at least £80 million on Career Mode! But with 91 finishing, 88 shot power and 86 heading accuracy, he won’t miss too many chances!
With bags of pace, quick reactions, strong finishing and accurate heading, Hernandez has everything you need from a top goal poacher! He shouldn’t cost you more than 1,200 coins either, so he’s a real bargain!
MATCH chats to Hashtag United’s pro FIFA players Agge Rosenmeier and Ryan Pessoa to find out the top secrets to their success!
WHAT’S THE BEST WAY TO TAKE YOUR CHANCES ON FIFA 18?
RYAN SAYS: “Driven shots are the best thing to do when you’re in on goal. Hold down the shoot button so it’s pretty powerful, and then tap it again to drive it along the ground!”
AGGE SAYS: “The most common shot is definitely the driven shot, and it’s always the most efficient. Combine it with the finesse driven shot, depending on the angle!”
WHAT’S THE MOST SIMPLE AND EFFECTIVE FIFA SKILL MOVE?
AGGE SAYS: “The Ball Roll. It’s easy to perform but it’s extremely good when you master it, and any player can do it. If you learn how to time it, then you can get into some amazing angles!”
RYAN SAYS: “The Heel-To-Heel Flick is good, but I’d say El Tornado is the best skill move. When the ball is in the air, your opponent’s cursor will switch, so if you get it right you
can get a free shot on goal!”
HOW DO YOU STOP SOMEONE WITH LOADS OF SKILL MOVES?
RYAN SAYS: “Sit off them. If you press too high, they can beat your first player, and then they’ve got loads of room to do more. Sit off, and make your move to tackle when you know they’re about to try a skill move!”
HOW DO YOU TAKE FREE-KICKS?
AGGE SAYS: “Never shoot direct! It goes in sometimes, but it’s not very common. I call two men over and do a shooting feint, where one of them runs over the ball. Then you can pass to the guy that ran over the ball, or take it short and then shoot.”
RYAN SAYS: “I don’t shoot from free-kicks that often, unless I’ve got Leo Messi. Let’s say Cristiano Ronaldo is my main taker, I’d press RB/R1, and when Messi comes over as the second taker, I’d aim to the side of the wall and shoot with him.”
WHAT’S THE BEST WAY TO TAKE A CORNER?
AGGE SAYS: “I don’t like to just smash it into the box
– it’s not very efficient and people know how to defend it. So I’d rather take it short and work my way into the box, either by playing it into a man at the near post, or just keep playing patiently to wait for the gap.”
RYAN SAYS: “Corners I lay short, and you’ll notice that the guy at the front post will run towards you. If you quickly play it to him, then you can either drag it back and shoot, or chip it to the back post for a tap in.”
IS THERE A METHOD TO SAVING PENS?
AGGE SAYS: “The first thing I always look at is how much power my opponent gives the shot. Everyone shoots low because even if the keeper guesses the right way, it could still go under him. So if your opponent uses a lot of power, then you know it’ll be a high shot, and if there’s less power you have to dive low. Then it’s a bit of a lottery – you just have to guess!”
MATCH checks out the best free-kick takers you can sign on Career Mode and Ultimate Team! These dead-ball demons are absolutely unstoppable!
In total, there are four cards on FUT 18 with 99 for FK accuracy, but this one is our fave! Memphis picked it up in TOTW 30 after bagging four assists in one game – the first player in Europe to do so this season!
Although the Italy pass-master has retired now, you can still sign him on Ultimate Team. With a free-kick accuracy of 93, he’s a set-piece expert!
Messi’s TOTY card is almost perfect when it comes to free-kicks. He’s got 99 for FK accuracy and curve, plus 94 long shots and 91 shot power! The only problem is, it’ll cost you about 2 million coins!
All three versions of Carlos have epic free-kick stats, but this one is unreal with 97 for FK accuracy, curve and shot power! If you get him, try to recreate his famous effort v France with the outside of his left foot – it’s ridiculous!
Calhanoglu can match Pirlo’s epic stats for FK accuracy and curve, but he’s got the added class of 86 shot power and 88 long shots, so he’s a threat from absolutely anywhere!
Check out this side we've created using players with a 5-star weak foot! Is there anything you'd change?
Modern-day full-backs need to give your attacks a helping hand by bombing on down the wings! Check out these four awesome options for the left-hand side!
Telles’ displays this season earned him a Winter Upgrade, and his new card is sick! With 85 pace and 91 stamina, he gets up and down the wing all game, plus his class 80+ crossing and dribbling stats make him a massive threat going forward!
Lato is awesome at bombing down the wing with 84 pace, and his 85 crossing
is as good as most other full-backs on the game! If you get him on Career Mode he can play LM as well, and he’s got the potential to hit the high 80s overall!
We give Marcelo the edge over the likes of Jordi Alba and David Alaba because he’s
got 90 crossing, 84 dribbling and four-star skills – that’s as good as most wingers! 35,000 coins isn’t too bad for the best left-bacK on the game!
If you’ve got a squad of Spaniards or players from the Portuguese League, Grimaldo is a no-brainer. He’s got real decent dribbling, speed and crossing, so he’s an absolute bargain at no more than 1,500 coins! Plus, he’s a free-kick king!
EA have finally given Career Mode a proper overhaul – get a load of what's new!
Tactics are gonna be way more detailed on FIFA 18, so you will be able to tailor your team’s style of play to how you like it. Whether you’re a fan of tiki-taka, high pressing or counter attacking, you’ll have total control as manager!
We love checking out the new skill challenges on the new games, and FIFA 18 has more than 15 drills and challenges to help improve your players! There’s tons more detail too, so you can coach your squad to their full potential!
EA have taken some of the scenes from The Journey and included them in Career Mode. You’ll have proper sit-downs with opposition managers to sort out transfers for new signings and sales, with loads more detail in the deals!
As well as transfer negotiations, there’s loads of other extra scenes away from the pitch too. You’ll see your superstars showing off Player Of The Month awards, signing new deals and celebrating trophies!
A sick feature new to FIFA 18 is the introduction of quick subs! When the ball is out of play, you’ll be able to instantly use your bench, rather than having to pause the game and go into Team Management!
After including the official Bundesliga TV presentation to FIFA 17, EA have added the same for La Liga and the MLS. The added graphics at the start of matches will be just like watching it in real life. How cool is that?
Our mates at EA invited us to have a first look at FIFA 18 last week, and told us all about the new game! Here’s what we learned…
EA reckon FIFA 18 is the biggest improvement to gameplay for years, and the way players move is way more fluid and realistic. Your players respond to your instructions straight away – when you press shoot, they shoot!
The look and sound of stadiums have been upgraded to capture unique atmospheres from around the world. We played at Boca Juniors’ Bombonera, and it was sick! You can even jump into the crowd to celebrate with fans!
Every year we say that the game is becoming more and more life-like, and every year it just gets better! The likenesses are crazy now – check out this incredibleclose-up of Cristiano Ronaldo!
You’ll be able to use the skills of top dribblers better than ever on FIFA 18! Players respond to every touch of the controller, and move in their own unique way. Slow dribble is back on R1/RB, and no-touch dribble has been improved!
Player movement off the ball improved for FIFA 17, and it’s stepped up again! Your team-mates understand when to make a run and when to come short, while the opposition is able to use a wide variety of tactics against you!
EA SPORTS said crosses on FIFA 17 were looped up too much, so now regular crosses will be whipped in instead. You’ll still be able to loop it in by holding L1/LB, and drill it by holding R1/RB, but there’s no more double and triple tapping!
A cool new addition is the option to make a quick tactical tweak. When the ball goes out, you’ll have the chance to change a player by holding R2/RT, and selecting your super sub!
EA have tried to make it easier to recreate some of footy’s most beautiful moments! They’re calling this quality new feature ‘Dramatic Moments’, and it means that slick through-balls, long-range screamers and epic volleys are all possible!
EA have dropped more info about FIFA 18 ICONS for Ultimate Team. Check out the heroes included!
Henry’s best years were at Arsenal when his pace, dribbling and finishing made him the Prem’s best striker for years! He started his career at left wing though, and moved back there when he joined Barcelona!
Every ICON will have three different versions from various stages of their career. Ronaldinho’s 94-card is from his peak years at Barcelona when his tricks, dribbling and creativity made him the best player in the world!
FIFA fans have been crying out for the original Ronaldo to join FUT for years, and now he’s finally here! The Brazilian was devastating on his day, winning the Ballon d’Or in 1997 and 2002 – where his 96 and 94-rated cards come from!
Brazil’s all-time top scorer and arguably the best player in history is still the only player to win three World Cups! Pele’s performances in the 1970 victory are legendary, and that’swhy he’s bagged a 98-card. What a player!
Before Lionel Messi, Maradona was Argentina’s greatest ever player by far! He practically won the 1986 World Cup single-handedly, and did the same for Napoli in their only Serie A title wins in 1986-87 and 1989-90. Such a legend!
Some people still haven’t got used to FIFA 17, but that hasn’t stopped MATCH investigating what’s expected from FIFA 18 when it’s launched later this year! Get a load of all the mind-blowing rumours we’ve heard about the game!
EA will be using the same Frostbite 4 engine seen on FIFA 17, so graphics aren’t expected to change that much! Gossips do predict sharper player movement and greater crowd detail, though!
Due to Frostbite 4 being used again, gameplay won’t change massively either. Fortunately, some of the little problems with ‘17, like wrongful bookings and button delays, are likely to be tweaked. Yes!
Marco Reus was on FIFA 17’s cover, but MATCH can’t see that happening again. After a stunning 2016, and with PES-makers Konami owning Lionel Messi’s image rights, spies think Cristiano Ronaldo is the big fave for FIFA 18!
Gossips reckon The Journey will get even better on the next FIFA! Some believe you’ll be able to create your own Alex Hunter, while others predict FIFA 18 will focus on his international career. Ace!
Some people didn’t like the new set-pieces on FIFA 17, and we’ve heard EA will do something about it! They’ll either completely change it again, or go back to how set-pieces used to be!
On PS4 Pro and PC, VR is rumoured to play a small part in FIFA 18. Gaming experts have suggested first-person ref cam, a crowd camera, and even first-person Journey gameplay. That would all be awesome!
