THEO WALCOTT – 7 STEPS TO SUCCESS
Arsenal's Theo Walcott has been ripping it up this season, and here he tells MATCH how he did it!
1. FIND YOUR BEST POSITION!
THEO SAYS: “I’d been thinking about it for a long time, and before the season began I told the boss I wanted to be known for playing on the right again. He knows I can play anywhere across the line, but I wanted to go back to what I know best!"
2. SHOW EVERYONE HOW MUCH YOU WANT IT!
THEO SAYS: “I’ve looked at myself. I know what I can do. I want this team to do well and you can see that in the way I’m playing. I want it more, but that’s just me and the way that I work now. Maybe it should have hit me a few years ago, but there’s been a change in my whole attitude.”
3. UNDERSTAND YOUR TEAM-MATES!
THEO SAYS: “It’s important to have a good relationship with your full-back, and we just want to improve every day. But I don’t think it’s just me and Hector. Myself and Alexis are linking up really well, too. But everyone is on a high at the moment and we have to make sure it stays that way!”
4. BE CONFIDENT!
THEO SAYS: “You can tell from the way we start games, and the intensity we produce. We go out there wanting to win the mental battles first, put the opposition on the back foot and then score goals. If we continue to play like that, nobody will want to play us – in the Premier League or Champions League!”
5. FORGET WHAT'S GONE ON BEFORE!
THEO SAYS: “Is there any need to go on about the past? There generally isn’t, is there? If we dwell on the past, we’re not going to get anywhere. We just have to look forward. We can’t be dwelling on this silly title drought! It’s a massive year for the club and we all know what we need to do.”
6. LOOK TO THE FUTURE!
THEO SAYS: “I’m not looking back any more, just forward. I always need to be focused on the next game. I don’t dwell on my past games – it’s about the next day. I just want to be better!”
7. DON'T WORRY ABOUT OTHER TEAMS!
THEO SAYS: “We don’t start thinking about other teams and results – we can’t control that. All we need to think about is Arsenal. All we can do is control ourselves. I think the best of us is still to come. It’s still very early into the season, so hopefully we can all stay fit and it will be a good run!”
