Juventus and Colombia speedster Juan Cuadrado is always using the Side Step and Double Side Step to create space to the left or right of an opponent that’s either in front or behind him in a 1 v 1 situation! You can learn how to do it below...

MATCH ACADEMY TIP!
 

When performing this move, have eyes-up so you can see team-mates, opponents and space. Travel slightly away from the space you want to move into – this will move the defender and give you more time – then accelerate away using a fast touch using the furthest foot from the defender.

BALL MASTERY – OUTSIDE CUT SIDE STEP
 

  1. Tap the ball with the outside of your right foot then step behind the ball with the outside of the same foot.

  2. Tap the ball with the outside of your left foot then step behind the ball with the outside of the same foot.

  3. Repeat the sequence, sneak a look in front/to the side, have soft knees and be over the ball for balance.

1 V 1 MIRROR MOVES – SIDE STEP
 

  1. Step behind the ball with the outside of your foot and dip your shoulder.

  2. As your foot touches the ground, use the outside of your opposite foot to push the ball away.

  3. Accelerate away!

  1. Step behind the ball with the outside of your foot and dip your shoulder.

  2. As your foot touches the ground, step behind the ball with the outside of the opposite foot.

  3. Push the ball away in the opposite direction with the outside of your closest foot, then accelerate away!
