ENGLAND forward RAHEEM STERLING chats after The Three Lions’ Euro 2020 opening win over Croatia at Wembley!
PLAYING AT WEMBLEY!
STERLING SAYS: “It’s a great feeling for me, playing at Wembley not far from where I grew up as a young boy and seeing the stadium get built! It’s great to get on the scoresheet, but most importantly, I thought the team played brilliantly at times with the weather. We dug in and it was a great start!”
STERLING SAYS: “I don’t know if it’s pressure when you’re in front of your own crowd – it’s an extra boost! You’ve just got to be excited – you’ve got people behind you, supporting you and we’ve just got to try to use it to our advantage!”
FIRST TOURNO GOAL!
STERLING SAYS: “It’s great to break that duck! At the same time, I’m focused. I think the most important thing is to try and win. I know the true value of the team. We dug in and kept that clean sheet at the end!”
STERLING SAYS: “It’s early days – it’s the first game. It’s great to get off to a win. We know as a team we’ve got a lot to do, a lot to build on, but at the same time the most important thing is the togetherness in the team!”
STERLING SAYS: “He was good in there! He brought a lot of energy to the team, he was on the front foot and in the opposition midfielders’ faces. At the same time, he’s great with the ball. For our goal, you can see the clever play, the drive with the ball and a great weight of pass. He brings a lot to the team and it’s a credit to him – his first major tournament. He’s done brilliantly!”
