Next up in MATCH’s special-edition Young British Baller series is the DORTMUND dynamite! We take a look at the star’s story so far…

Jadon Malik Sancho grew up in Kennington, London, and joined Watford at seven, but left to join Man. City when he was 15! In 2017, The Citizens offered him his first pro contract, but the youngster wasn’t convinced he’d get enough first-team opportunities at the Etihad. That’s why he decided to reject Man. City’s offer and move to Dortmund in a deal worth around £10 million!

It didn’t take him long to settle into a new life in another country! He became the first Englishman to play in the Bundesliga for Dortmund when he made his debut in October 2017 and was named in the 2018-19 Bundesliga Team Of The Season after racking up 12 goals and 14 assists. By February 2020, he became the youngest player to hit 50 assists in the history of the Bundesliga!

Given his performances in Germany, it was no surprise to see Sancho linked with a huge transfer to Man. United last year – although it never came off due to The Red Devils refusing to meet Dortmund’s £108 million asking price. It remains to be seen whether Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is still keen on bringing the winger back to England, but nobody wants a repeat of last summer’s saga!

Even though both of his parents are from the Caribbean island of Trinidad and Tobago, there was never any doubt that the London-born star wanted to represent England! He was named Player Of The Tournament as England reached the final of the Under-17 European Championship, and will be hoping to replicate that success this summer with the senior side!
