We’re also getting to know another of ARSENAL’s academy gems! MATCH takes a look at the attacking midfielder’s story so far…

Just like his mate Bukayo, Emile Smith Rowe was born in London and joined The Gunners’ Hale End academy as a child! From ten years old, he made his way through the youth groups, before joining the senior side’s pre-season tour in July 2018. He impressed then-gaffer Unai Emery so much that he was offered a new long-term contract at the club!

ESM made his competitive debut in September 2018 in the Europa League, coming on as a second-half sub for Alex Iwobi and becoming the first player born in the 2000s to make his senior debut for Arsenal! A month later, he became the club’s youngest scorer in a competitive match since 2011, and the first player born after 2000 to bust net for The Gunners!

In 2018-19, the attacker was sent out on loan to RB Leipzig but suffered from a groin injury and barely played for the Bundesliga side! His loan spell in the Championship at Huddersfield last season was a lot more successful, though – he played 19 times in the league, was directly involved in four goals and came back from the experience a better player!

Since ESM’s breakthrough into the senior side last December, he’s established a telepathic partnership on the pitch with Saka! ESM assisted three of Saka’s first five Premier League goals this season – making them the first English duo to combine for as many as three Prem goals before either player has turned the age of 21. Ballers!
