Next up in our special-edition Young British Baller series is the LEICESTER forward! MATCH takes a look at the star’s story so far…

Even though he was born in Burnley, Harvey Lewis Barnes grew up in Leicester and is a product of the club’s academy, which he joined when he was just nine! The 23-year-old winger signed his first professional contract with The Foxes in June 2016, before making his first-team debut a few months later in the Champo League!

He didn’t become a first-team regular at that stage though, so he was loaned out three times by The Foxes to build his experience in the Football League! After successful spells at MK Dons and Barnsley, Barnes joined West Brom in the Championship on a season-long loan in 2018-19, but impressed so much during his time at the Hawthorns that he was recalled by Leicester six months early!

He was rewarded with a new five-year contract at Leicester in June 2019, and he’s flourished under the management of Brendan Rodgers! He ended 2019-20 with six goals and eight assists in the Premier League – an amazing return for his first season in the top flight! He’s already been directly involved in more goals this season and has plenty of time to add to his tally to boost his chances of playing for England at the Euros!

He’s made a handful of appearances for England at U18, U20 and U21 levels throughout his career, but didn’t make his senior debut for the Three Lions until October! Given the way he started the season for The Foxes, Gareth Southgate couldn’t ignore him any longer and named him in his squad for the first time. He made his debut as a substitute in the 3-0 win against Wales!
