MATCH catches up with professional gamer Owen Venn, aka Venny, to chat everything FIFA 19…

WHAT DO YOU THINK OF FIFA 19?

VENNY SAYS: “Originally I wasn’t a fan because it took me a while to get used to it, but I’m really enjoying it now – and I feel like I’ve got a good understanding of the game. Usually I pick it up straight away, but shooting has been tricky to get used to on FIFA 19. I really like Timed Finishing, but it’s not perfect yet!”

ADVICE FOR TIMED FINISHING?

VENNY SAYS: “There’s a skill game called Bronze Shooting, where you just keep taking shots at the keeper. Try different things, practise trying to time them and work out what suits different positions. This is the first year I’ve really used training drills, but it’s helped improve my finishing massively!”

DO YOU RATE DYNAMIC TACTICS?

VENNY SAYS: “Yeah, it has been really helpful, especially when I’m struggling with my starting formation. I usually start with 4-2-3-1, but when you need to change the dynamic of the attack, switching shape can be really useful. It’s very helpful just to quickly switch without having to pause the game and then do it yourself!”

FAVE PLAYER IN YOUR FUT SQUAD?

VENNY SAYS: “Well I’ve got Cristiano Ronaldo, so I’ll have to go with him! He’s always the guy on FIFA – powerful, good finishing and wins every single header. He’s a really effective weapon!”

WHO DO YOU WANT TO SIGN?

VENNY SAYS: “The three main players from the last two years are Patrick Vieira, Ruud Gullit and R9. Ronaldo has got a 5-star weak foot and the finesse trait, and when you hit a timed finish with him it almost always goes in. But if I had to pick just one then I’d take Gullit, because I need to sign a box-to-box midfielder!”

WHAT DO YOU LOOK FOR IN A PLAYER?

VENNY SAYS: “I make sure my attackers have four-star skills, because they have the ability to change games. They have to have four-star weak foot too. If a player with three stars gets a chance on their wrong side, they’re probably gonna miss, and you just can’t afford that at the pro level!”
