MATCH gets to know the ARSENAL and Switzerland baller!

LIA SAYS: “My hero as a child was Zinedine Zidane, I loved watching him play. I think he was the best footballer I’ve ever seen! I remember following the World Cup in 1998 with my family when I was five years old. We were living in France a year before that and I started to become a fan of the French national team!”

LIA SAYS: “If I wasn’t a footballer, I would probably work with kids – either with the smallest ones or as a primary school teacher. I just like to see how quickly children learn and how much you can impact them by showing them things!”

LIA SAYS: “I would say I’m a calm player and good at protecting the ball. I like to organise the defensive structure of our team and also taking responsibility for that. The players around me know that, and it gives them more freedom to do what they can do best. They can put their priority on creating chances!”

LIA SAYS: “My proudest moment in football was when we made it to our first-ever World Cup with the national team in 2015. I can’t describe the feeling, it was just incredible to share the experience with all my team-mates. We had a great team and I wouldn’t want to share it with anybody other than the team we had at that time!”

LIA SAYS: “I wouldn’t say I have one special meal or food. I like a lot of things, and I like to not always eat the same. If I have to go with one favourite, it would be ‘Kasespatzle’ – I love cheese. I don’t really eat much meat. I’m not vegetarian, but I don’t really need meat anymore. Beside that, I like almost everything!”

LIA SAYS: “I can’t really remember my first live football game. A match I’ll always remember is Switzerland against Togo at the 2006 World Cup in Germany. The stadium in Dortmund is massive and the atmosphere was just amazing!”

LIA SAYS: “I’m not a born goalscorer. I don’t even know if I’ve ever scored an important goal in my career! I can remember my first goal with the national team – it was against Kazakhstan. I’ve had more important passes or assists… Scoring goals isn’t as important for me!”

LIA SAYS: “I like to go for hikes, I like to dance, I like to explore cities or to travel generally, and my favourite thing is to spend time with my friends and family!”

LIA SAYS: “Before every game, I have to heat my feet up with a hairdryer because my feet are always freezing cold!”
