MATCH gets to know the demon EVERTON defender!

POPPY SAYS: “Rachel Yankey was always a female footballer I took an interest in growing up. She’s a left footer, just like myself, and I liked how she played with confidence and quality. Outside of football, of course my family have played a huge part in my successes, so I can’t thank them enough for all that they’ve done!”

POPPY SAYS: “Football has always been at the forefront of my mind growing up, but if I wasn’t a footballer I think I’d like to be part of the media world as I enjoy that side of the game too. I studied business at college and I also like fashion, so maybe something along those lines if I had to choose!”

POPPY SAYS: “My footballing strength would have to be my 1v1 defending. I’m a very determined player with a strong winning mentality. I take pride in being hard to beat as a full-back!”

POPPY SAYS: “Being a defender I tend to keep them out rather than scoring them! But, saying that, I do have a pretty good one! My favourite goal has got to be in the first match of the European finals playing for England at U17s level. I was about 35 yards out, looked up and saw the goalie off her line and just went for it – lobbed her. It was a beauty!”

POPPY SAYS: “Without a doubt, the proudest moment in my career so far has got to be the overall experience of representing my country. From playing for England at Under-15s to now U23s is such an honour. There’s no better feeling than singing the national anthem proudly before a big game for your country, with my family watching!”

POPPY SAYS: “People probably wouldn’t think that I’d be a good student, but believe me I actually did very well in school. Although of course sport was still my favourite subject! I was very successful in my exams and look forward to whatever lies ahead alongside or after my playing career!”

POPPY SAYS: “I’ve been lucky enough to meet so many of my friends through football. I think it’s so important to be surrounded by those who understand your day-to-day life and the sacrifices it takes to be a professional. Down in Bristol, me and Abigail Harrison had non-stop laughs together, but I’m also very close to Esme Morgan and Lauren James from our England journeys!”

POPPY SAYS: “Football is obviously my biggest focus so, if I’m not recovering and have to put my legs up, I do still like to be active. I’m not one to be able to sit down and watch series after series or a long film. I must admit I do love a good shopping trip. Also, while living away from family, I spend a lot of time with my team-mates going for a coffee or dinner together!”
