MATCH took the chance to chat to Trent Alexander-Arnold all about his career so far!
TRENT SAYS: “Liverpool sent my school some invites to training, and my name got drawn out of a hat! I went down and after ten minutes a coach approached my mum, and I’ve been a Liverpool player ever since! If another kid’s name had got drawn, who knows what could have happened?”
HEROES GROWING UP!
TRENT SAYS: “Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher – the local lads. I’d always look at them and hope one day I’d be doing what they were doing!”
GERRARD AS COACH!
TRENT SAYS: “When he was doing his coaching badges, he did a few sessions with the U16s – and I absolutely loved it! He was still playing at the time, so during the week I’d be doing his sessions and at the weekend I’d watch him at Anfield – it was crazy!”
DEBUT V SPURS!
TRENT SAYS: “I still can’t find the words to describe it! Nothing compares to how scared you are when you walk on the pitch for the first time. For the first 20 minutes you’re so nervous, but you’ve got to put that behind you and prove why you’ve been given the chance!”
SCORING IN THE CL!
TRENT SAYS: “We hadn’t discussed who’d take free-kicks, but the manager and some players were shouting, “Trent, take it,” so I got pressured into it! It was an incredible moment. I’ve watched it so many times – I think I’ve seen it in every language commentary!”
ADVICE TO YOUNGSTERS!
TRENT SAYS: “You always get knock backs, because the road is never straight, so it’s important to always believe you can go as far as you want to, if you keep working hard. That’s what I’ve tried to do!”
